Jeff R. Florissant, MO |
High profile, quality protection into the mid-90s. Just make sure you get the right size. I’m 6’1” 195 lbs with a longer torso and use the 15” model.
Nabil R. Isabela, ISABELA |
Good investment for youth games.
Jeremy E. Madison, WI |
Got this based on a fellow umpires suggestion. I’ve used it for several games and like the slim profile. Would recommend it.
Byron T. Drasco, AR |
This is a great CP. Low profile looks great behind the plate. Offers excellent protection from foul tips. It’s lightweight and is an absolute steal for the price.
Charles B. Southaven, MS |
Amazing fit, just be sure to measure carefully.
Matt B. Louisburg, KS |
I have been wearing a Wilson Gold for several years and needed something longer being 6’3”. Decided to give this one a chance and glad I did! It’s light weight and I don’t feel like a linebacker behind the plate anymore. I’ve taken a couple of 80+ foul balls off the chest and shoulder and didn’t feel a thing. It’s breathable and looks good under my shirts. Great value for a great piece of equipment!
Brad A. Fort Wayne, IN |
Definitely a good chest protector for the value. I looked at the Wilson West Vest and multiple other ones as well. The price drew me to this, but I’m glad I got it. It’s tremendously slimmer and easier to maneuver and then my old vest. Would definitely recommend purchasing this, especially if you’re on a tight budget.
Joey W. Benson, NC |
Lightweight, soft, and fits well under the shirt. For a guy 6'3", it works great.
Don T. Ontario, Canada |
Perfect chest protector after using an older style and wanting some more protection. I'm less than 6ft tall with a stockier build, but ended up purchasing the 17" unit after reading some other reviews. It provides excellent protection but is not overly bulky once the straps have been adjusted. Good value and prompt shipping. I wish that I had this equipment years ago!
Rob H. Honolulu, HI |
This is my second one as the first one got rusty after a couple of years of use. It works well and has protected me from a lot of shots. I get the 17” size and it fits well. I use the UMPLIFE harness with it.
Peter K. State College, PA |
Fits well once tightened up. Good protection.
Joshua C. Santee, CA |
The perfect balance of all major factors. Fit, protection, price. Tried and true for years now. Would recommend spending some time adjusting it until it fits perfect. I am a big boy at 6'1" 260 and the 17" fits great.
Logan G. Marshall, WI |
Purchased this to replace my Davis Shield. I have bigger traps and shoulders, and the top of my shoulders/traps are exposed unless I really hike the pads up. Took a missed ball directly off my top shoulder in my second game with this and don’t feel confident with it. Will continue to try and modify, but may just give up and get a West Vest and be done with it forever.
Shantell D. Cheektowaga, NY |
The chest protector looks nice but is not ideal for women with a chest or a person with a wide neck. It would also be nice for there to be optional straps on the bicep piece to keep it in place. Somewhat difficult to move in.
Doug S. Russells Point, OH |
Lightweight chest protector that provides plenty of protection for any level. Taken two direct shots to the upper chest the first week wearing and felt nothing. Like the low profile as well. I’m 6’1” and the 13” fits perfectly.
Scott M. Goodyear, AZ |
This protector is amazing! Switched from my old Wilson West Vest Platinum to this one. It's low profile and looks good under a shirt or jacket. I found out during my 2nd hitter that it takes inside foul straight to the chest really well. Highly recommended!
Robert L. Rogers, AR |
This is a great chest protector, I love the low profile while providing great protection. I am a lot more comfortable in this CP than my Wilson West Vest. It gives more coverage than the Wilson West Vest over the lower ribs. I use this CP in upper-level high school games without issue. You will not be disappointed with this vest.
Dave M. New Fairfield, CT |
I use this for Fast Pitch Softball at a high level and have taken a couple off the chest/shoulder and this really does protect. Good padding and nice thin hard shell outside. Nice low profile, you don't get the Middle linebacker look and it's not too heavy. Lots of guys like the K2 protector but, this offers a lot more protection and not too much weight. Excellent value. Light weight, great fit, solid protection. Some guys didn't like the straps. I have no issues with them.
Brian B. Schoolcraft, MI |
Really happy with this chest protector. Very comfortable and the low profile is great for getting a jacket on over it. I have taken several hits to the chest and shoulder with no problem. Excellent protector for the price.
Blayne W. Minnesota |
I bought this to replace my Champro Pro-Plus, but ended up returning it. It was smaller, seemed less protective, and I didn’t like the strap(s) in the back. I would’ve installed a replacement strap for sure to change from the original. I bought another Champro instead.
Ralph M. Westlake Village, CA |
3 seasons and about 149 plates at a high level of baseball. Taken a couple of foul balls in the upper 90s. Great thin design, easily put my UMPLIFE harness on it. I was initially concerned giving up my West Vest but my Champion has never let me down. Was recommended by a couple of friends in MiLB.
Larry H. Ohio |
Love the low profile look it gives. I don’t look like a middle linebacker, which IMO is the look the fuller size protectors give. The straps are completely adjustable for all body types. I felt the price was also perfect, not too expensive. Shipping was very fast I believe I had it in 3-4 days. Overall a very positive experience with both the product and the company.
Walter H. Schenectady, NY |
Excellent product. Very comfortable. Protects the collar bone very well. I recommend it. Not overly expensive while still providing the protection of some higher priced items.
Tristan H. Belleville, IL |
I have a buddy who recommended it. My concern when ordering chest protectors online is the sizing. 15 inches is perfect for me. It's also not too bulky. Satisfied.
Joseph N. Roanoke Rapid, NC |
Glad to have this chest protector.
Darrell L B. Laurel, MD |
Ok here's the deal, I'm 6'2 and after checking out different chest protectors, I came across this one so I ordered it. Had a tournament this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. I took a few off center mass and didn't feel it so I'm glad I brought this one.
Harold K. Los Angeles, CA |
Nice light weight chest protector it’s easy to put on and take off. I’ve been hit a few times and didn’t feel nothing great product.
Rob K. Mathias, WV |
I have worn one just like this for many years, it was just time to renew. I’m believing this one will last as long.
Stephen D. Wichita, KS |
I love the fit and the breathability, and the fact that you can wash it.
Matthew R. Richmond, VA |
Great umpire chest protector! It's light weight, fits well and provides ample protection!
Andrew C. Niles, OH |
Light and protective. Love how low profile this is.
Mike C. Cedar Rapids, IA |
Very pleased with this chest protector. Doesn't trap heat/moisture, allows for good movement, lightweight, relatively low profile. Taken numerous fouls, it has protected exactly as expected. I haven't had it tested against 90+ mph stuff, but just fine into the 80's.
Ryan M. Aledo, IL |
Best umpire chest protector out there for the value.
Byron B. Seabrook, TX |
I bought this umpire chest protector looking for something that was lighter and had a hard shell. I like this protector as it sits higher to protect your shoulders and is lighter in weight. It also seems to help with heat and since I live in Texas this will come in handy. I think this is a good value for the price.
Kevin C. Whiteland, IN |
BEST VALUE AVAILABLE IN THE CHEST PROTECTOR MARKETPLACE!!!
Josh D. Frisco, TX |
Upgraded from a Champro softshell chest protector that just felt way to bulky. This is really a great fit, slim chest protector. Used it once so far in the Texas heat and it felt cooler also. I'm really happy with this and can't believe the price. Would highly recommend it.
Jacob P. DFW, TX |
Hands down, this is the all-around BEST umpire chest protector currently on the market. It's $55 (!!!), plenty of coverage, fits super well, breathes great for a hard shell, and the side padding actually isn't obstructive. I've had mine for 4 years, and it's still going strong! I haven't even had to replace the harness, believe it or not. If you're looking for a hardshell, you're cheating yourself if you're not seriously considering this as an option.
Mark S. Dexter, MI |
Great chest protector! I was a little leary at first whether it would be enough protection! Been hit multiple times and it definitely does the job! Love it! Plus my plate coat fits perfectly now!
Dave B. Oakland, MD |
Was looking for a low profile chest protector with plenty of shoulder/collar bone protection. A friend who umpires in North Carolina summer heat recommended the Champion. It is working out great. Love the look, flexibility, breath-ability and protection. Seems like a steal at the price. Having only used it twice the side flaps are a bit annoying but not sure if it is me or the chest protector. Might have to make a minor adjustment there.
Nick T. Camarillo, CA |
Great chest protector. Have worn it for 10 games and it feels great. I've taken fouls off the chest and have barely felt a thing. 10-10 worth it.
Clark H. Pennsyvania |
I am 6'4" and the 17" is perfect for my height. I umpire baseball and softball and found this vest light weight and comfortable. I only taken one shot to the chest and the vest worked well. Grate vest for the price.
Paul R. Corona, CA |
Light, comfortable and low profile. I trimmed the upper/outer edges of foam chest piece to fit and increase mobility. So far it's a great purchase.
Ethan M. Vancouver, BC |
I really like this chest protector. It's really light, low profile, and doesn't overheat on those hot summer days. Feels very strong and safe, especially considering the price. Only thing is that I found the outermost wing flaps got in the way when trying to move my arms. Can easily be cut off with scissors.
Ron R. San Diego, CA |
I love this umpire chest protector. Has a very low profile, doesn't move once adjusted. I took a couple of direct hits and nothing. This protector is hardly noticeable during the game. Thanks Ump-Attire.com!
Mervin W. Lancaster, CA |
I like the Champion Body Armor Chest Protector for several reasons. First, is that it covers your collar bone and shoulders from getting a direct hit. Second, that it comes in different lengths so I can get it long enough to cover the lower part of my stomach. Third, that the cover is made of rigid plastic to take the initial blow from any baseballs. Finally, the pads can be removed and washed and then replaced so you don't have to try to get them clean while still attached.
Adolph V. El Paso , TX |
Maximum protection for low profile umpire chest protector.
Rex M. New Braunfels, TX |
Recently purchased and really like it. It is light but so far provides great protection with a lower profile then my other umpire chest protector. When I first put it on I was not a big fan of the harness so I altered it a little by purchasing the Force3 replacement harness with metal clips, and that gave it a more secure fit.
Richard B. Cleveland, TN |
Bought this for a cooler, lighter option at an affordable price. It was all 3. Very comfortable to wear, much cooler than other protectors. It protects extremely well. Already took a few hits to chest and shoulders and barely felt anything. Takes a few games to break it in and adjust it but after that it's great.
Michael P. North Port, FL |
Comfortable! Feel very protected back there. Took a fastball directly to the chest the other night and didn't feel a thing!
Michael L. Redford, MI |
Well built, slim profile. Switched from the West vest which was to bulky for me. Great product and value.
Jacob S. Sioux Falls, SD |
The best chest protector for the cost. I have used it from little league to varsity and have taken some shots in it. I feel well protected in it.
Michael M. Millington, MD |
For the price this is the best hardshell chest protector on the market. Been using it for 9 years on the high school varsity-junior college level. Zero issues.
Kevin S. Gaithersburg, MD |
Solid construction, but moderate durability and limited hard shell protection. Looks sharp and is great at this price point.
Stephen D. Lafayette, La |
This umpire chest protector is light and fits very well. I had a West Vest Platinum so I'm still getting used to this smaller cp. Very comfortable but it doesn't have the protection around the shoulders that the WVP has. I took a few shots off this cp and it did its job.
John M. Tucson, AZ |
Good umpire chest protector, Shoulder cracked where biceps add-on goes and is running up the shoulder pad. used less than 6 months and it needs to be replaced, very dissapointed.
Arnold C. Weslaco, TX |
This umpire chest protector is very light and has great ventilation. I bought this based on the reviews it had. My previous one I've had for the past 10 years, and it is still good but it was time for a new one. I would recommend this to any umpire High School and Below. It feels like you have nothing on. Took a couple of shots and felt nothing.
Chadwick S. Houston, TX |
Once adjusted, this rig is very comfortable. It molds to the body after a few hours and feels great. It also can take hard fouls from HS pitchers throwing 80+. Great rig!
Bill FL |
This chest piece is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a contoured and minimalist appearance while still having protection where I need it. Pads nowhere near as thick as other heavy chest protectors, but still feel very solid. Only issue as with most chest protectors I try on, it's tough to get the chest protector snug and fitting high without ripping my ears off when I remove the chest protector after a game. This one isn't near as bad as others I've worn. The Wilson gold was really bad at this. Definitely a umpire chest protector for the mobile, athletic umpire that doesn't want to look like a linebacker.
Greg Nashville,TN |
I have done high school and college baseball using this very umpire chest protector, I have not had any issues. This summer I took a 90mph fastball to the chest and felt nothing, can't beat that.
Kyle T. Vista, CA |
By far, the best chest protector for the money. I've bought all three sizes for the umpire closet at our LL field. These are just a small step down in protection from the WV/Douglas/System 7 standards. Never have we had such an option for the beginners. Value, protection, low profile and three sizes. Pair this with a Delta Flex harness, you have a very solid rig.
Luke J. Fisherville, Ky |
This is a great product! It protects well and the price is too good to pass up on, when the quality is beating out some of the high priced chest protectors today.
Josh Morris Indiana |
Love this cup. Taken many h.s. hits with it and didn't feel a thing. The best piece of equipment I have bought yet. Only down side is it doesn't breath well.
Gregg Bessemer, Alabama |
This is a great CP for the price. I wear this as a backup to my West Vest Gold, and love it. The only downside... The padding is permanently riveted in place (not machine washable).
Bruce Mikolajczak Woodstock Valley, Connecticut |
By far the best CP at this price point on the market. It compares favorably with my WV Platinum.

Q: | I bought this cp and I love it. The only thing is that my two harness clips have gotten very rusty. Is there any way to get two of those clips? – Robert Tejeda |
A: | So glad to hear you are happy with your chest protector. Yes, Metal Replacement T-Hooks are sold as a pair. – Cortney AndersonCustomer Service Specialist |
Q: | Does the neck opening fit snug or does it have a little room? Also, would the UMPLIFE harness work with this chest protector? – Gerald Arnold |
A: | The neck padding at the throat of this Champion Body Armour Chest Protector is 5.5 inches across. Having a snug or looser fit around the neck will depend on how tightly two top shoulder straps, the "Y" of the harness, are tightened. Q: | What do you suggest for a Champion P2-17 chest protector replacement harness? – Alan Jankowski |
A: | The Champion Body Armor Umpire Chest Protector it is recommended to replace the stock harness with the UMPLIFE Replacement Harness and remove the T-hooks from your Champion to use on the UMPLIFE. – Ty UnthankMarketing Specialist, HS & College Umpire |
