Official Reviews
Chris G. Aurora, Ontario |
I bought this convertible jacket exclusively for the bases. I wore it in an evening summer game and was functionally comfortable. All black jackets look good with plate umpire shirts and you look professional out on the field. I love it!
Hiroya S. Uruma, OKINAWA |
I wear this all season when the weather is showering or cold. I recommend sizing down if you have low profiled chest protectors.
Robert P. Aliso Viejo, CA |
Love this umpire "shell". Wore this for the first time this year and has become a favorite for those not hot, but not cold spring evenings!
Lucas C. Pinckneyville , IL |
Very durable and holds color well. Definitely size down as they run extremely big.
Scott S. Kenosha, WI |
Great light weight jacket for days that are that in between cold & warm. I would suggest a size up for getting over chest protector.
Dwaine S. Spokane, WA |
Lost weight so had to down size. Very comfortable and true to size without chest protector. Would up size to use with protection.
Matthew W. Hillsboro, KS |
Great jacket. Fits well and is very breathable!
Joey W. Benson, NC |
Great pullover. Very versatile. Can layer up under it and stay warm while staying cool in the warmer months. Sized well enough to wear on the plate as well.
Timothy M. Virginia Beach, VA |
Great product. Very breathable and generously sized for comfort.
Matt S. Farmersville, TX |
Very breathable and generously sized. If you’re going to wear it only on the bases, you may want to size down.
Kassandra NY |
The jacket is versatile and comfortable.
Kyle H. Fort Collins, CO |
Great all-around versatile rain protection and an absolute must if you work NCAA games. I just wish it was sized a little better. There is so much extra material around the waist and arms. I even went down to a size small, and I still swim in it (I wear a Medium shirt).
Yuki I. St. Louis, MO |
The size runs pretty big. The sleeves are pretty big to accommodate the chest protector, but I would like to see them slim down on it a little but to give it a tighter fit look. Other than that, it’s a very nice jacket. I would definitely recommend it too for times where the weather can be unpredictable.
Chad W. Paw Paw, MI |
Great jacket for spring weather.
Dean H. Morehead, KY |
Cut a little differently from the Majestic. It’s cut for the plate just like the Majestic. Seems to run a little larger; not necessarily bad, just larger. Material very close to the original. Good quality item.
Martin S. San Bernardino, CA |
This is a great "crossover" jacket. Cool enough for those in between days and loose enough to allow a layer or two to stay warm. This is a lightweight windbreaker that is great for allowing me to adjust even as the weather changes midgame.
Daniel M. Fertile, IA |
Awesome combination with the sleeves being able to be removed during hot summers in the Midwest.
Eric G. Worcester, MA |
Awesome product. Perfect for shaky weather or for something to take the edge off on a cool day.
Josh M. Memphis, TN |
Convertible jacket is great. It’s light and airy. Zip the sleeves off and wear in the summer. It’s light enough fabric that it won’t stick to you. Looks professional with sleeves on or off. Good for a windy day too. Just a great piece to have in your bag.
Nicholas J. Montana |
Great for hot days with the sleeves zipped off. They look sharp too.
Craig M. New Whiteland, IN |
Material is very similar to the Majestic brand that is not made any longer. Nice update on material from Smitty.
Gary Rancho Santa Margarita, CA |
Excellent quality and the material is first-rate. It looks and feels like the Majestic MLB convertible pullover (which I own), but can’t wear while umpiring high-school or college games. Also, the sizing is spot on! Great buy and a terrific value.
Quinn D. |
Excellent product. Love the ability to go short sleeve or long sleeve. A must have in my opinion.
Mike M. Dacula, GA |
A must have! Light weight enough for the spring days and heavy enough for the spring evening. Looks professional and that is half the battle!
James G. Gibbsboro, NJ |
One of the best umpire jackets/pullovers on the market. Allows for easy transition from long sleeves to shorts sleeves or vice versa depending on what the weather calls for that day. Great item to wear while working out on the bases, where I mostly prefer to wear this item, but also has enough room & perfectly sized to wear behind the plate. Item is a must have for umpires of all levels.
Janet T. Woodstock, GA |
This is, by far, my favorite umpire jacket. It’s perfect for those in between weather games. I love that the sleeves are easy to take off and out back on.
Tommy P. Barnardsville, NC |
Love this umpire jacket so much. It's very nice and lightweight for me, and it's also looks very sharp when you are on the field.
Nathaniel S. Panama City, FL |
Best material Smitty has brought in last couple years. The new material feels very similar to the Majestic umpire jacket.
Hamilton C. San Diego, CA |
Here in San Diego, CA, this should be perfect for foul weather games. It looks good tucked in and untucked. If it gets cold, I like to add layers under my jersey and this lightweight jacket will be a nice addition.
Brian Henry Toccoa, GA |
Lightweight, comfortable, and very reasonably priced. Had a chance to wear this past weekend and it will be with me for the rest of the year!
Michael H. Lake Elsinore, CA |
Perfect lightweight jacket for those nights when the fleece one would be too much. The zip-off sleeves give you a nice option and you look like a pro.
Debbie P. Atlantic Beach, FL |
This Smitty Umpire Jacket is great. The removable sleeves are easy to take off or add on with zippers. There is great ventilation and can be used for base or plate work. Whenever there is a chance for rain, this is my go-to!
Darwin N. Honolulu, HI |
Great jacket. Makes me look very professional as an umpire. In Hawaii, I use it once in a while, but it does keep me warm, and dry, when I need to use it!
Travis H. West Virginia |
Great umpire jacket! It will be a nice addition to the closet for early spring games!
Brian E. Simpsonville, SC |
Great jacket! Like the way you can blouse the bottom. I normally tuck in, but this is less binding and still looks great.
Larry D. Lubbock, TX |
Really like this umpire jacket. Liked the Majestic a whole lot better. Smitty fades much faster, and have had several cuff issues that I never had on the Majestic. You all know how much better all Majestic apparel is. They make it, just don't understand why the College or High School umpire is not allowed to purchase. Smitty ok, just an only choice.
Chris G. Lincoln, NE |
Love this jacket. It's fantastic for those cooler, windy days. This jacket gives you the look of the pros. I really like that you can sinch up the bottom of the jacket around your waist so it doesn't have to be tucked in. Get it for your bag!
Geoffrey K. Berkeley Springs, WV |
Very light weight and comfortable.
Brian B. Bismarck, ND |
The umpire jacket is very lightweight. The material could be better and it seems to run bigger than one would expect (sized down for use on bases). It would be a nice jacket if one didn't have a Majestic version to compare it to.
Steve C. Gig Harbor, WA |
Lightweight and comfortable.
HD San Jose, CA |
First of all, the service from Ump-Attire is 2nd to none! Have purchased many items from them in the past and I'll continue to do so. I wear this jacket a lot! In fact, this is my 2nd one of these that I've purchased. You definitely need to size down for the bases as it's cut for having a chest protector underneath. Because of its versatility (sleeves on or off) and it's lightweight, it's my go-to for most of my games during the summer time evenings.
Michael K. York, PA |
I have to report that this is the first product purchased from Ump-Attire.com that I'm not totally satisfied with due to the material of the jacket. I understand the price point because of the removable sleeves. I also want to indicate the drawstring adjustment does not remain fixed when I wear the jacket as a true pullover without tucking it in. I really appreciate the two part jacket with removable sleeves but hope Smitty or another company can develop the same idea with a more quality material and closure to adjust around the waist. This may cause the jacket to increase in price but I would be willing to pay for top notch material like the poly-spandex umpire pants. Thank you for the incredible customer service and top of the line products that Ump-Attire.com continues to make available to all officials.
Bailey M. NC |
Great umpire jacket. Very lightweight and looks professional.
Darrell A. Bakersfield, Ca |
This umpire jacket is perfect for the warmer climate we have here. Warm enough for the early season chill, but cool enough to wear at the end of season night games.
Brian C. Andalusia,Al |
Nice jacket. Received promptly.
Matthew C. Jacksonville , FL |
Love the umpire jacket. Light weight but insulates you when it's cold and love that I can take the sleeves on an off especially because of how this Florida weather changes. Have not used the majestic so I can not compare it to it but this is a great jacket for me. Have not had a chance to use it in the rain yet in a game however I did test it myself in minor drizzle and did pretty good. I do wish there was also a inside pocket for it is raining to keep paper dry as the front pocket can let water in and runs down off you shoulder.
Shawn B. Lake Stevens, WA |
Love this jacket. Use it all year round. Perfect for the Pacific Northwest. Wear it behind the plate sans uniform shirt never overheat.
Robert M. Lincoln, NE |
Just what I was looking for in a jacket. It does seem to run big, so I had to return and reorder a smaller size. Love that I can tuck it in if I want. Removable sleeves will be nice when I just want to keep from getting too cool. Looks great w/o sleeves too!
Archer F.P. Spring tx |
Great umpire jacket, stops the wind and rain from getting to you while looking professional.
Donald D. Gresham, OR |
Just what I needed! Well constructed and designed to!
David L. McKinney, TX |
Very comfortable and breathes very well. Looks very professional.
Gordon G. Austin, TX |
Great versatile base jacket. Vented back is also a bonus. Would recommend this jacket to any umpire.
Ed J. Apple Valley, MN |
This umpire jacket is comfortable and looks very good. It fits over the gear well and kept me pretty warm in 35 degree weather in spite of feeling relatively thin. It does not breath as well as I'd like, however, as I ended up relatively damp after a few innings.
Brandon C. Milford, OH |
Looks very professional!
Thomas S. Saint Louis , MO |
Material is thinner than the previous convertible jacket model.
Guy Z. Sanford, NC |
This is the perfect all around jacket. Great for cold, wind or rain. Fits perfect over plate gear and has a clean professional look!
Alex S. Hickory, NC |
Absolutely love this umpire jacket! Lightweight breathable and works great over chest protector or without.
Matt M. Silver Springs MD |
Jacket is fine. My advice is order down a size. I think it's a big cut.
Lawrence W. Canton, MI |
Have two of these pullovers. Perfect weight for spring and fall games.
Bill H. Wichita, KS |
I love this convertible umpire pullover. It's sized correctly and at a great price point.
Jason P. Belle Plaine, MN |
Absolutely love the jacket, the sleeves come off easy. I wear this jacket on the bases on cool nights and look sharp. Just another great product from a great company.
Eric O. Draper, UT |
Love this jacket. It's light weight and perfect for cool or windy days. It's a little difficult to put on over a chest protector but once on it fits perfectly.
Ty Cobb Bothell, WA |
This is a great convertible umpire jacket when it is too cool for a short sleeve shirt and too warm for a jacket. I took the sleeves off and have never put them back on. Comfortable with a good fit. Like it.
Paul McKeen Stoughton, MA |
Perfect for bases and plate. The removable sleeves are easy on and off. The convertible jacket looks sharp. No issues with the style or material.
Paul F. Lampasas, TX |
Similar to the beloved Majestic jacket. Jacket runs large just like the Majestic. Different material same style. Hope there's a version 2 coming out!!!!
Joe Glendora, CA |
It's a nice convertible umpire jacket. There is only one major difference that I noticed that I didn't like. The collar on the Smitty jacket is a little tighter than the Majestic when completely zipped so it feels like you are getting choked. It may be because the collar on the Smitty is a little bigger. The material is a little different as well but it does the job.
Tyler Tyler, TX |
Not near as good as the older Majestic umpire jacket. Material has more of a plastic feel to it. Very stiff feeling.
John B. AP, AP |
Wow, I really didn't know that Majestic has discontinued this jacket and now it is made by Smitty. Still looks like a great jacket. Sorry to see Majestic discontinue the item; always found them to be of very good workmanship and sharpness in looks; not saying the new model doesn't give that same appearance, just love the Majestic brand.
Dave G. Myrtle Beach, SOUTH CAROLINA |
Love the Smitty Convertible Jacket and it is all any of us would need to wear...love the extra length at the back to ensure it won't "pop" out on you during the game...wore it with some Majestic guys and they didn't know the difference.
Daniel C. Cullman, AL |
The material is not even comparable to the Majestic. It is better than nothing that's about it.
Dominick L. Chicago, IL |
I loved my Majestic all black pullover, but when they stopped making them (big mistake), and heard about the Smitty umpire convertible, I was somewhat leery, but I decided to give it a shot. Its actually very comparable to the Majestic. The material is a bit more of a sleek look, but if your crew wore the Majestic version and you wore this, no one would be able to really tell a difference. For $50 its worth it. It fits true to size also.
Ken Fitts Atlanta, GA |
I had the chance to connect with Jim at this weekends NCAA clinic in Nashville where he had the Smitty pullovers available for try on in sizes S,M,L. In the Majestic I wear a size M, which fits me slightly big. The Smitty size M was a perfect fit. The arm pit measurement of the smitty was about 24" (pit to pit) and the majestic measures 25" for the same measurement. The smitty M also in my opinion had slightly shorter sleeve length which for me was a perfect fit. It is definitely sized for the plate so If you are ordering it just to wear on the bases. I would size down from your base shirt size.
John P. North Richland Hills , TX |
I love this convertible umpire pullover. It's sized for plate gear, so if you only want it for bases be sure to order a size down. It's more sturdy than the Majestic. It's comfortable. If you want something like the Majestic, this is definitely the same if not better. Highly recommended.
