Smitty Performance Poly Spandex Charcoal Grey Base Umpire Pants

The pants are great. The only problem is the clasp on every pair of Smitty pants I own is broken.

Fast arrival as usual. Ump Attire has always gotten my shipments out quickly. Product quality seems to be better than the replacement that these were ordered for. My last two pairs had zipper issues and Ump Attire will only replace the defective pair one time, so I had to buy a new pair. Neither of the last two pairs made it through an entire season. So we will see how this pair makes it.

Pants work well, durable, feel nice and have lots of room.

Absolutely love the Smitty Performance Poly Spandex pants, on the plate or in the field. Very comfortable and breathable. And the rich charcoal color is outstanding. I highly recommend.

After reading forums I bought these umpire pants and a Davis pant from another site. Tried both and returned the Davis ones. These Smitty ones were $20 cheaper and felt better. Now off to the tailor. Better pants, paid for hem, and saved $5 over the Davis version. Win win.

I prefer these umpire pants to the ones with the expander waist band. The fit is just better all throughout the pant including the legs and waist. I also like that these have the dark charcoal waist band on the inside of the pants versus the white waist band on the pants with the expander. Sometimes waist band can roll, especially with the weight of baseballs in ball bags, so the charcoal color is less visible than white.

These are by far the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. Not only umpire pants but all pants. They are light and flexible and move when you move. Great product I will never use another brand or type.

I have been using the Smitty Performance Poly Spandex Umpire pants now for about 18 months, so three full baseball seasons. My wife hemmed them, and they look great! After 18 months of washes, weathering (from freezing cold, rain, 110+ deg weather), they are still looking very good. Slight color fading after 18 months, but no wear failures, no holes, seam breaks, etc. I have been VERY happy with them. These are specifically field pants, so the legs are not big enough to pull up over plate gear (in case you were wondering). That is why you get these in tandem with specific plate pants.

The pants fit good. I like the color and the belt loop location. However, the material feels like I threw on my church slacks on. Wrinkles too easy. So if you work at least 3 base games a day, expect the typical polyester wrinkling parallel to the groin area and behind the knee. Might try another brand.

Real nice umpire pant. Real light and get a nice breeze. If you get these pants you can almost guarantee you will match your partner. These pants are worn at every level of the game.

Really enjoy these umpire pants. They're the darker variety, but keep their crease really well, and the waistline is nice and stretchy when needed.

I just stocked up on some new umpire pants while they are on sale. Smitty umpire pants wear well, breathe well, and are very comfortable. As many have found, umpire pants tend to run a bit small in the waist, so keep that in mind. Smitty pants on sale are a great value. Time will tell as to the color fastness and anti-fading wear of these pants, but so far (2 seasons) they have not faded at all. In warm climates, I find these to be one of, if not, the best options available.

Great base and plate umpire pants. The color holds year over year. Hemming is easy just using hem tape. The material may feel thin for early spring games here in the NW, however in the summer when it gets warmer, these are very comfy.

I have several pairs of these poly spandex umpire pants and I have to say I will wear nothing else. They are so comfortable and the material is thin which is great for summer ball in Texas.

I love these pants. A very sleek look. They combine the two things you need when on the bases, cool and comfortability. The breathable fabric combines with the spandex makes these pants a slam dunk choice.

Good pants, color sharp, washes well but clasps at the waist a pain to hook up sometimes...

I like these umpire pants and don't feel they are too baggy, as other reviewers have noted. I do find it difficult to completely remove all of the wrinkles after washing. I may just begin to take these for dry cleaning and pressing so they look crisp for each game.

So much potential. Base pants are way too baggy and they fade way too quick. Everything else is basically perfect.

These are super baggy. I can wear the base pants at the plate and still have room. If you are looking for an athletic cut or look, I do not recommend purchasing these pants.

Legs are big enough for shin guards but not so baggy that it looks bad on bases.

So far so good with these pants (I've only worn them for about three games). I jokingly tell people I'm wearing my pajama bottoms. They are that comfortable. Light weight and breathable. I love how the spandex allows them to stretch. One thing to know...the waistband doesn't expand like the Gerry Davis pants do, so be sure and order the appropriate waist size.

These umpire pants are the most comfortable pants on the market in my opinion. The combination of polyester and spandex is a cool material match which gives you great mobility. I do hope Smitty can make this pant into an expandable waistline for people who are in between even sizes.

Very comfortable pair of umpire pants. I've been using plate pants for both base and plate and needed base pants. I found these and decided to give them a try. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I can get some plate pants of the same material.

Most comfortable pair of umpire pants I have worn so far. I have only called one weekend in them so far, but it was in the upper 90's and they were cooler than the other pants that I have worn over the last several years. Hope they are as durable.

These umpire pants live up to the hype! Other umpires are asking about them. They give that true golf pant feel. I've worn them on 90+ degree days and they were about as cool as could be. Washed, dried and ironed without a problem. Held a good crease.

Personally I love them. They are cool and when pressed look really sharp. They are a bit more shiny than I imagined, but I think the look is great. The waistband is think which I think creates a more comfortable yet snug feel around the waist. I wear these for day or night games and they are fine for both. I'm hoping all my conferences approve these next year.

With all the hype around these, an Ump-Attire.com sale price and my need (okay maybe a want) for new pants I decided to buy a pair of base pants along with a pair of plate pants. I do like these umpire pants! They are more of a slim fit than my other base pants and are cooler for sure. I am not as impressed with others because I think they wrinkle easier than my poly-wools but not terribly. I haven't washed them yet but I'm hoping dry-cleaning isn't a requirement. I usually gentle wash and hang dry all my umpire uniforms. These pants will be my go-to tournament pants!

Great umpire pants! The gripper waist band doesn't go all the way around back; even if you are an in between size you will be able to have the waist altered in or out if needed.

The umpire pants are just amazing. Just last week I had to call a game in the rain and by the time the game ended my pants are already dry. Always listen to what Ump-Attire.com's got to say, they're pretty smart on helping us out with having the right equipment.

Super sharp pair of umpire pants. Light weight, true fit, and incredibly comfortable. They do wrinkle quickly, but just as quick as they wrinkle, the wrinkles do go away after wearing them for a little while. You won't regret having these pants!

Most Comfortable Umpire Pants out there.

Very comfortable umpire pants that have great flexibility when you're on the move. Plate pants don't get caught up on your shin guards during your plate work. Nice classy look and easy to clean. In order to have extra room while on the plate I ordered a size up to accommodate for the extra layers during the colder months otherwise I stay with my regular waist size.

I disagree, the pants do not fit true to size which is frustrating. You will need to size-up just like other brands. One size up is sufficient though. Very thin and lightweight which is nice in the heat.

I just purchased the new Smitty Performance Poly Spandex Charcoal plate, base and combo pants and in the 22 years I have been doing this is by far the best ones I have used. They look great and are cooler on the field. Job well done!

Top of the line. These don't wrinkle, they move over and around your shin guards and shoes FAR better than previous pants options. They hold the crease and deflect dirt better. No better pants product has yet been invented, that didn't cost upwards of $150.

Have to say that I've never been a big fan of Smitty. My go to pants have always been Davis, until a partner of mine last year (middle of may) had a pair of these poly spans. They looked great...felt great...so I had to try them out. I've only worn them just a couple times so far this year, but I'm very impressed. I've had multiple compliments on the look. Again I've only worn them a couple times so we will see if they last as long as Davis pants do. These pants will be great for calling those late spring/early summer games when the forecast is 100% chance of sweating through your pants.

I was working a PG Series and one of my fellow umpires was wearing the Poly Spandex Plate Pants and they looked good. So I asked him how did they feel and he spoke highly about them. So I purchased a pair of pair and fell in love with them. I ordered another pair of plate pants and 2 pair of base pants. They are light and keep me cool on hot days. I don't have to pull them up when I take my crouch to see a pitch. I recommend all umpires try them out.

I am very happy with these umpire pants. It has been difficult to find an umpire pant that is quality in look, fit and feel since the vendor that supplied the Poly-wool pants decided to decrease their quality. These will be fantastic in warmer weather and are okay in cold weather so far.

Great product- I actually was able to size down due to the flexibility and relaxed fit of these umpire pant s- I normally wear a size up in Umpire pants with polywool and now I can go back to normal sizing. I am excited to use these on the field - a bit thin for the cold weather but will be great during summer/fall ball when it warms up.

These pants are cut HUGE enough that I can wear them on the plate with comfort. I also bought combos and they are big enough that on a windy day they flap like sails... can't imagine what the plate pants are like..material is great but the cut is HUGE..I'm not a small guy 6'1 205 so not like I'm a breadstick...also why are umpires the only guys since 1980 that are still wearing pleated pants. All in all pants are just OK not my first choice.

I have used the Poly Spandex base pants for several games this summer, and they are the best, especially when temperatures are hot. The fabric is much cooler than the competing brand of poly / wool pants that I've been using for years. Very light fabric. Finally some good looking Summer weight umpire pants!

Though I am a rookie umpire and have not tried but maybe 4 different brands of pants, these are easily the most comfortable that I have owned. The spandex materiel is ideal for calling games behind the plate as they not only move with you, but also very breathable. The fit around the waist is accurate to standard fits.

A great product. Wears wonderful and retains its shape during wear and after being laundered. Feel great while working games. They are not hot to wear. Will most definitely be purchasing this product again.

Very impressed by the quality, have worn them in about 40 games so far. Waistband is not adjustable, but it does stretch in case anyone wants to know. They look great, but are a bit more high maintenance to keep pressed in comparison to other pants I have. Still the sharpest looking set of pants I have owned. Will definitely buy more. I have worn about every brand out there. I can say these pants are the real deal. Fit, feel and look are fantastic. Smitty set a new standard. Time will tell how they hold up but so far I'm impressed.

I really like the Plate Pants, but the Base Pants are more like Combo's. They need to be tapered more at the bottom.

I just got to wear these pants last night and they are the best pants I've worn. They look good and feel great. I can see that these will be awesome for warmer weather games. I will be ordering associated plate pants soon.

I have been a user of the Smitty pant for 4 years now. I have never had a past problem with any of the pants that I have worn but it was time to upgrade. I have been wearing combo pants the last 2 seasons and decided to go back to a plate and base pant. It's a much better look and so I took 2 minutes and watched Scott Kennedy talk about the NEW Poly Spandex Pant. After watching his video, I had to place an order. I received them Tuesday and the fit is absolutely AMAZING! These are the sweetest pants, bar none! Color, fit, flexibility and sleekness is top notch! I have my first 2 pair at the tailor now and I just ordered an additional pair of each today! I can't wait to wear them in my games next week! The best pants on the market!!!

Purchased the base pants and they are very nice pants, however if you need a short rise pants then these pants may not be for you as they will be very baggy. Overall the quality is excellent, they look and feel great. Since they are more baggy than I would like I may be sending mine back as alterations may be cost prohibitive. Maybe Smitty would consider a short rise base pants, for the plate the regular rise plate pants would probably be OK. I am giving the pants Four Stars only because they are very baggy for short rise individuals. Ump-Attire.com delivered fast, as usual, and are always easy to do business with.

I have never been much of a SMITTY fan... nothing personal they just never seemed to fit me just right and always seemed a tad low quality... The new Spandex Poly Charcoal Baseball umpire pants bar none are the best looking most comfortable pants I have ever worn... they hang like a pair of $500 dress slacks and move with you... they are NOT expandable which is the biggest plus of all... buy the size you need and get rid of that adjuster tab... no more shirt tails coming out and different pieces of extra material coming out at waist. These are very, very, very nice pants... GREAT JOB ALL AROUND... one last political note...I wish they were made in USA and not Vietnam!!!

Just received my Smitty Poly Spandex charcoal plate pants and as advertised they are AWESOME, the color is the best charcoal BAR NONE, and they are very lightweight and the % of spandex material really makes them stretch. I think Smitty's has hit a home run with these.
