Good looking shoe and comfy in the dirt! Used other reviews to get a 1/2 size larger and fits perfectly!
Russell C. Leesburg, IN |
A great pair of shoes. I've only wore them a few times but they were very comfortable.
Chuck J. Liberty, MS |
Great base shoes.
Ian O. Meridian, ID |
If you’re going to get this, they run small. My last pair I bought was a 12. Wanted to wear thicker socks, so I ordered a 12 1/2 and it is too small.
Daniel B. Ventura, CA |
Bought these recently and have been using 3N2 base shoes for both softball and football for years. After about 10 softball games I find these more comfortable and look forward to seeing how they hold up now that football is starting. As far as fit, I bought 11-1/2 and found they were too small so purchased a size 12 and fit perfect.
Paul S. Florien, LA |
Comfortable and fit true to size.
Eldon B. Oklahoma City, OK |
I've had these shoes for 3 weeks and they are very comfortable and I like the all black look. Makes them easier to clean without any white trim.
Keith E. Richfield, MN |
Lightweight and comfortable. Only drawback are the ridges on the sides of the sole. Dirt gets trapped there making them challenging to clean.
Trent V. Leitchfield, KY |
Nice, low flash style. It grips really well and has no problem wearing in a double header. Have had New Balance tennis shoes in the past and these don’t disappoint.
William L. Orlando, FL |
Great looking shoe, super lightweight and super comfortable. Feel very good on the field.
Jason C. Livermore, CA |
I’ve only had these shoes for a couple of weeks, so not sure about durability. Comfortable right out of the box and better with every game! They feel a bit lighter than the old New Balance shoes I had. They are easy to clean and I love the new look! I would definitely recommend these shoes.
Dan M. Pittsburgh, PA |
My experience was similar to John's in Phoenixville. I bought the New Balance plate shoe last year in the same size. I love those shoes, and I'd describe the plate shoe fit as "roomy." I use heavy socks with the plate shoes and they're fine. I've had trouble in the past with other brands, particularly with width. At first, I was disappointed with the cramped fit of the base shoe, same brand same size. Then I tried a lighter sock, and the fit was better, but tight enough to be worried about blistering. Before sending them back and requesting a half-size bump, I pulled out the sole inserts. Now the shoes fit perfectly, and they're still comfortable, though I might try a thinner insert. In comparing the soles of the New Balance plate shoe vs. their base shoe, the toe of the plate shoe seems boxier, so even though they're the same size, you don't get the same fit. If you're like me and have wide feet, I'd still recommend New Balance over other brands.
John R. Phoenixville, PA |
Nice, lightweight shoe with an aggressive, non-clogging sole pattern. I would recommend going a 1/2 size bigger and the next size wider (I had to return the first pair) since they run small compared to my previous shoes by the same manufacturer.
Beau O. Dayton, OH |
I like the high top MUCH better! Feels as if you have more “support” on the ankle and foot. Low top was all I could get when I ordered. Everything was sold out.
Ronald T. Miami, FL |
Perfect shoes to use.
Donald T. Bronson, FL |
Great shoe for bases, particularly for guys like me with a 4E width. Light weight but good support.
Richard P. Barnstead, NH |
These shoes are incredibly comfortable and the traction and grip on all surfaces is superior. Add to that quality, design and workmanship. I bought a pair for baseball/softball umpiring and another for soccer officiating. I have flat feet and the wide options make New Balance the only choice for me for athletic officiating footwear. So comfortable and light.
Brandon Wichita , KS |
These shoes are as light and comfortable as advertised. For those trying to buy cheaper on a budget, it is worth the extra cost for the comfort.
Linda B. Copley, OH |
I buy these every year for my husband. He coaches high school football and these are the best base shoes I have found. They are comfortable, look great, and the price is awesome. Excellent!
Laura N. East Providence, RI |
This shoe is lightweight and true to size. It is comfortable for those long days on the field.
John R. Plymouth, WI |
Very comfortable from the first day. I was wearing a different brand for football and my feet always ached after the game. No pain after wearing these. What a relief.
Kurt H. Ladysmith, WI |
Very comfortable. I'm using them as my football shoes, and they do quite well, even on damp grass. They're just a touch on the wide side, but that's better than being too tight.
Marvin S. North Charleston, SC |
This is the second pair of these I’ve owned and they are long lasting and very comfortable! The redesign of the toe front makes it more durable and roomier in the toes.
Anthony A. Lynbrook, NY |
Lightweight yes, but could be a little more supportive for big guys (230 lbs). Clean up well.
Garret C. Rancho Santa Margarita, CA |
If you’re looking for a lightweight, quality, all black athletic field shoe, look no further. The comfort of this shoe will exceed your expectations - and, the clean up time is almost non-existent; it’s basically, wipe and go. In my opinion, as an after thought, the shoe runs a tad narrow, so size up a size on the width and you’ll be good-to-go.
Mike B. Madisonville, KY |
Great lightweight shoe for field work. They are comfortable and fit great. I wear a "D" width and the fit leaves just enough room for extra socks or air circulation. These shoes clean up really well.
Allen A. Elko, NV |
Great shoe. Cleans up well and shines.
Erick L. Grandville, MI |
This shoe is very comfortable and lightweight; the only negative is they run narrow, I had to return it for the next size up in width. I wear a size D in width but for this shoe, I needed a 2E.
Tim M Murfreesboro , TN |
Lightweight and very comfortable.
Jason L. Cedar Lake, IN |
These are my first New Balance shoes. So far, so good. They shine up well. I replaced the sole with arch support and better padding. I usually wear a size 12 normal width, but I feel I could've gone with a wide for a little more room side to side.
Jerry M. Benton, LA |
I normally like New Balance shoes and they usually are true to size. I am a 4E width and when I ordered the field shoes in 4E width they came in and they felt like they were 2E width shoes, so I had to return them. Sadly I am still looking for field shoes and have yet to find a pair that fits my wide feet.
Alan G. Mill Creek, WA |
These look good and feel good too. Very sharp. I recommend them.
Gerard M. Pearl River, NY |
These are very comfortable base shoes. I have been using these shoes for several years and they wear well.
Anthony M. Grants Pass, OR |
These shoes fit true to size. They are extremely comfortable out of the box. Umpired for two hours on my feet and they felt great.
Richard G. Prescott Valley, AZ |
Most comfortable shoes to date, good looking and easy to clean!
Rick C. Villa Park, IL |
Most comfortable umpire base shoe I’ve had. Also, like the look of all black. Worth the investment.
Michael George S. Salem, OR |
Thank God these all-black shoes are back in stock! Mizuno and Nike use a one size fits all (Men/Women/Kids) compression narrow last that requires a normal man to order two sizes long, and even then, the shoes need to be stretched laterally with a shoe stretcher (at least for me) to avoid pain. Tried to replace these with an all-black Nike lacrosse turf shoe that, after hours on the shoe stretcher, still hurt my feet after a game. Got these last week in 2E. Aaaaahhhh!
Mark H. North Charleston, SC |
I have been a New Balance fan for years. I own four New Balance sneakers and the V3 Mid cut umpire plate shoe. This low-cut V3 shoe is very stylish and easy to clean. I wear size 10 with a standard width in my shoes, ALL my shoes. The problem with this shoe I have, is that the size 10 is too small. I have worn them three times and they have been painfully uncomfortable. They are too short, especially on my right foot. I have had to order a size 10.5 in order to hopefully have them wear comfortably. Since I have worn them three times I doubt I can return them. This is not what I expect from New Balance.
William V. Pine Bluff, AR |
Great quality and best shoe when needing X-wide sizes (4E). Great customer service and stock when it comes to Ump Attire.
Douglas S. Crescent City, CA |
My previous field umpire shoes has been discontinued, so I purchased these field umpire shoes to use as a backup. These are as close as I could find to my current pair of shoes, which should work.
John L. Saint Paul, MN |
Good and comfortable fit. Worth the price.
Mark S. Springfield, VA |
Great base umpire shoe. The only ones I can wear due to very wide feet. I did have to go up a 1/2 size from my usual New Balance sneakers.
Dave M. New Fairfield, CT |
I have a wide foot but not too wide...the middle width is just great. Light show and very comfortable. Did a doubleheader on turf and it’s got plenty of support and really impressive for a light shoe. Great fit and better feel.
Robin P. Sparks, NV |
Sizing was a pain. (Reason for the low rating) Every pair of New Balance I’ve owned over the years have been 10 1/2 wide 2E. Always fit, never a problem. These, not even close. I read the reviews about sizing up and ordered a 11 wide 2E. Not even close. Foot was crunched. Sent them back and ordered 11 1/2 extra wide 4E. Perfect. They feel good, game time will tell. Size up or you’ll be returning them. Hope this helps.
Lane M. Allen, TX |
Great shoes so far, well built, easy to clean (which is great!) and comfortable. As far as ordering, I would suggest ordering up a size and if you're on the border of having wide feet, go wide! I originally ordered these in the standard fit 11.5 (which is my normal shoe size, never have worn anything "Wide" or non-standard before) but when the 11.5 showed up, it was way too small (narrow) and a tad small in length. I picked up the 12 in the EE width, and it is perfect; allows for double-sock, super comfortable so allows for long days with multiple games if needed. Also, the return/exchange program with them was top-notch - SUPER easy to return and get refunded for the pair that didn't fit. Giving 5 stars for not only the shoes, but the exchange policy and quick turnaround.
Michael N. Salinas, CA |
Lightweight and comfortable. Great pair of shoes for baseball/softball and football.
Joe S. Lawndale, NC |
Wears really well. Feels comfortable. Still breaking them in.
Jeff Hembd Twin Falls, ID |
Very comfortable. Excellent umpire base shoes.
Justin G. Shoreview, MN |
Super comfortable. Have warn behind plate as well when I forgot my plate shoes and they worked fine. The only thing I don't like on these is the cloth part which gets to be super hard to clean. Overall, great product though.
Jesse E. Boise, ID |
Very comfortable base umpire shoe. I have worn them for 12 games so far and they have held up flawlessly!
Thomas H. Loganville, GA |
Very comfortable on the field.
Ken B. Denver, CO |
A comfortable umpire base shoe and one of the few that have the wide option. I like the new insole they put into this version of the shoe. It's also getting harder to find a shoe that is all black and non-cloth.
Scott J. Montclair, VA |
These base umpire shoes are comfortable and easy on the feet. I worked in really wet conditions with little issue.
Mark M. Columbia, SC |
Shoe runs smaller than the indicated size.
Michael W. Winfield, WV |
I love these umpire base shoes. They are very very comfortable and I will definitely buy these again when I need another pair of base shoes.
Adam B. Virginia |
These are the most comfortable field shoes. Full stop. True to size. Easy to clean. Comfortable even after a full day on your feet. Highly recommend.
Peter D. Napa, CA |
Great Fit. Comfortable. Easy to clean. So glad I added these to by umpire gear.
Eivind P. Fredrikstad, OSTFOLD |
I needed a second pair of base shoes for umpire school. These will be my primary base shoes this year. The fit and feel of them are great, and they are easier to clean than the V2.
Jeff B. Brooklyn, CT |
I purchased the New Balance V3 all black low-cut base shoes. I had to wait a little while for my 4E size 11's to become available, but I was promptly notified by Ump-Attire.com when they were back in stock. No baseball in CT for a few months, so I've been wearing them a bit here & there to gauge how they feel (look good enough to wear to work!)...they're awesome! I especially like the reduced amount of mesh fabric on the newer model - looks great and should clean up easily when necessary. Ump-Attire.com, these NB shoes are highly recommended!

Q: | I generally wear 10 1/2 in shoes. What size do suggest for these? I have seen some reviews that suggest they are little tight? – C'Kiimba Hobbs |
A: | Thank you for reaching out with a great question, C'Kiimba. The New Balance shoes tend to run true to size. The size 10 1/2 in the D width are going to be very similar to most running or tennis shoes. The 2E width is slightly wider and would be ideal for a wider foot and the 4E is extra wide and would be ideal for the widest foot. We are proud to offer free returns/exchanges, so you are encouraged to purchase the size(s) you feel will be the most proper size for you and if it does not work out well, you may return or exchange them at no extra cost to you. – Brandon LawsonSupport Specialist, Pro Umpire School Graduate and Umpire, Football Official & Basketball Referee |
Q: | I am looking for a pair of base shoes but I think all of the sizes are geared for men. I have an 8-8 1/2 women shoe size. Will these work for me and if so what size should I think of getting? – Kathy Brosnahan |
A: | For a conversion chart of mens sizes to womens sizes, please see our Fitting Room. We would recommend a size 6 1/2 in another brand or 7 in these shoes. – Ty UnthankMarketing Specialist, HS & College Umpire |
